Prepare for a better future!

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Adult Education Programs offer GED® preparation classes to residents of Florida for a minimal fee. The classes are designed to help students improve basic skills and better prepare them to take the official GED® Test.

Students may enroll at any time after taking the initial required placement test. Our program is designed to help individuals learn at their own pace.

Application Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of application (students under 18 years of age must take the official GED®  Practice Test and obtain an age waiver)
  • Have a government issued photo ID which includes a signature, address and birthdate. A bill in the name of the candidate can be provided as proof of address if the photo does not have an address on it.
  • Not be enrolled in a accredited high school unless in an approved dropout prevention program.

GED Registration Procedures:

Florida statute allows GED® testing for individuals who are 16 or 17 years old, provided they have filed a formal declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment pursuant to Section 1003.21(1)(c), Florida Statutes.

When a candidate registers for the test and their date of birth indicates they are 16 or 17 years of age, they are automatically placed in the Age Exception queue.

  • A signed and notarized Underage Testing Form
  • Proof of withdrawal from K–12

These documents must be submitted to the Florida GED® Testing Office before the Age Exception alert can be cleared and GED® tests scheduled.

Steps to Clear the Age Exception:

  1. File a formal declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment pursuant to Section 1003.21(1)(c), Florida Statutes.
  2. Register for an account at GED.com.
Complete the Underage Testing Form, including parent or legal guardian signature and notary acknowledgement.
  3. Submit the required documents (signed and notarized form and proof of withdrawal) to the Florida GED® Testing Office:
    Email: GEDagewaiver@fldoe.org or fax: 850-245-0990

Important:

  • The Underage Testing Form must be signed by the candidate’s parent or legal guardian and include a notary acknowledgement.
  • Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
  • Pursuant to State Board Rule 6A-6.0201, Florida Administrative Code, any test scores — and diplomas based on those scores — earned by an individual under 18 who does not meet these requirements will be invalidated.
